Last night we went to see Colossal (Hendricks' family friend, Pat Ford, on guitar!) and Modulator (Houston) at the Market Street Cafe. Pat told us tales from the road: 750 mile daily treks, the comfort of a carpet, and the decline in crowd size outside of the greater Chicago-area. It reminded me why I rejected the rock-star path. Or, more likely, it rejected me. Both bands rocked the house (loudly). The A/C had gone out in the morning so the place was hot, hot, hot!
On Thursday night we went to Eddie Matney's Open Mic hosted by Newton's Theorem. They were an excellent guitar/cello duo. The other musicians that got up to play came well prepared, so I better prep well before trying this one. One solo artist used a loop pedal to lay down some chords and then solo over...that may be a good avenue for my future performances, but will require a lot of practice to get it right!
Unlikely to do any recording in the near future (with the big trip and all), but I hope to write some new stuff along the way.
